1. What this license covers
This license covers the Koala UI component library, design tokens, sections, page examples, templates and Figma library ("Koala UI"), however you obtain them: through the koalaui CLI, from the public repository, from the Figma file, or by copying them from the documentation. The koalaui CLI itself is licensed separately under the MIT license.
2. Two tiers
Koala UI comes in two tiers:
- Free: everything installable without a license key. The foundation components, the helpers and the design tokens.
- Pro: everything that needs a license key. Every other component, every section, the page examples, the source of the templates shown as demos on the Site, and the Figma library.
3. What you may do with the Free tier
You may use, copy and modify the Free tier, at no cost, to build any number of websites, applications and other end products, for yourself or for clients, commercial or not, including open-source end products.
4. What you may do with the Pro tier
Buying a license gives you a perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use, copy and modify the Pro tier to build any number of end products, for yourself or for clients, commercial or not. There is no subscription: the license does not expire, and it includes the updates published while Koala UI is offered.
5. End products
An "end product" is a website, application or other work whose value to its users is more than Koala UI itself. A client site built with Koala UI is an end product; a template, theme or UI kit made from Koala UI is not.
6. Seats
A Pro license covers one person, who activates their seat with the koalaui CLI; a continuous-integration job run for that person may use the seat. Unlocking the source on the Site uses no seat, and is limited to the people the plan covers. You may not share a license key, or the activation ids issued for it, beyond the seats you bought.
7. Clients
You may hand an end product, including its source code, to a client. The client may keep using and maintaining that end product, but receives no right to use Koala UI in any other project unless they buy their own license.
8. Third-party assets
Fonts, photographs and other assets that a template or section loads from third-party services are licensed by their owners under their own terms, not by this license.
9. What you may not do
For either tier, you may not:
- sell, license, sublicense or give away Koala UI, in whole or in part, as it is or modified, other than inside an end product as described above;
- use Koala UI to create a product that competes with it: a component library, UI kit, design system, theme, template, page builder or code generator offered to others;
- remove or alter the copyright and license notices in the source files.
10. What you may not do with the Pro tier
For the Pro tier, you also may not publish Pro source where people other than your team and your clients can read it, including public code repositories, gists and package registries (an open-source end product may use the Free tier, but not the Pro tier), or share, resell or publish your license key or its activation ids, or use them for more seats than you bought.
Pro files carry a comment that identifies the license they were installed with. Removing it does not change these terms.
11. Termination
If you break these terms, your license ends and you must stop using Koala UI in new work. End products that you delivered before the license ended, while it was valid, may keep running. A refunded purchase ends the Pro license the same way.
12. Purchases under the earlier license
If you bought Koala UI before October 1, 2026, under the license this site published until then, your purchase keeps what that license promised: lifetime updates to the products it covered, at no extra cost. Everything else in this license applies to it too.
13. No warranty
Koala UI is provided "as is", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and noninfringement. In no event shall the authors or copyright holders be liable for any claim, damages or other liability, whether in an action of contract, tort or otherwise, arising from, out of or in connection with Koala UI or the use or other dealings in Koala UI.
